Week 4: One Month Down

Image
Hola everyone. It has now been officially a month and a day since I've been set apart as a missionary. It has also probably been the quickest month of my life. Time has absolutely flown by, and I'm completely ok with that. Every day is filled with gospel and language study, bonding with my district, and the occasional fun random activity. Like last P-day when we went to the Provo temple, which was absolutely incredible. I love the temple, and I was grateful for the opportunity to get outside the MTC boundaries and get out into the real world.  Me and my two comps actually got the opportunity to talk to a guy outside of the temple who was writing a talk about the Holy Ghost. We were able to give him some advice and direct him to some conference talks and also 3rd Nephi 18. It was awesome to be able to see what missionary work is going to be like. Except we'll be speaking a different language, and it'll be -40 degrees outside. Oh Canada, I can't wait! If...

"From Junior Companion- To (Zone) Leader!"

If you don't understand the quote in the subject of this email, then I feel very bad for you, because that means you haven't seen one of the greatest movies ever created in this dispensation. That movie would be The Best Two Years, and though I don't share Elder Van Pelt's desire for upward mobility in the missionary hierarchy, me and my two companions were all called as zone leaders on Sunday. Which basically means that we run the MTC. Hahaha not really, it just means we are in charge of welcoming new missionaries and making sure everything in branch 24 is running smoothly. I'm very excited. In other news, we have begun complete Spanish immersion, so me and my district have been only speaking Spanish at all times. Which means a lot of finger pointing and charades to communicate. I feel like a caveman. Thank goodness for Hermano Markham, who is such an incredible teacher, and probably one of the top five teachers I've ever had. Once again, I would also like to s...

The Place Is Packed

Image
Greetings, all you beautiful people. Welcome to week two of William's mission experience. This week was very fun and very spiritually edifying. First off, the MTC is crazy busy right now. When I got dropped off, I learned later that I was one of about 600 missionaries getting dropped off. Needless to say, the place is packed right now. And it's not slowing down. Today, another 800 are coming. The work is strong across the world. I also finally met my district in person when I got here a week ago, and let me tell you, those fellas are a bunch of silly geese. I love them dearly.  Most importantly, I got to meet my companions, Elders Moll (pronounced like Darth Maul) and Krzeminski (we don't even try to pronounce his name we just call him elder K). Elder Moll is from Arkansas and is 20 years old. He played football in high school and loves Arkansas football (lotta BYU trash talk going on). Elder K is from Haines City Florida and actually plays football at BYU. We'e rooming...

Greetings From Provo

Hello everyone. Welcome to William  Curtis 's email list! Within these emails, you will find touching heartfelt spiritual moments, incredible laughs, and everything in between. I hope that you'll be entertained and uplifted as you read these emails each week. Since last Monday, I've been attending the amazing, the wonderful, the absolutely incredible online MTC. Now, you might not think that staring at a computer for 12 hours a day can help you feel the spirit, but boy would you be wrong! It was insane to see how close I got to my boys of distrito 24-J just over zoom. I also got to see what kind of people I'd be serving with in my mission (see video enclosed at the bottom.) I love these guys and am so excited to meet them in person today. In other news, my original companion, Elder Lloyd, was not able to come to the online MTC because he broke his back. So I floated along by myself for about two days until the best companions, Elders Moll and K (I can't spell his la...
