The Place Is Packed
Greetings, all you beautiful people. Welcome to week two of William's mission experience. This week was very fun and very spiritually edifying.
First off, the MTC is crazy busy right now. When I got dropped off, I learned later that I was one of about 600 missionaries getting dropped off. Needless to say, the place is packed right now. And it's not slowing down. Today, another 800 are coming. The work is strong across the world. I also finally met my district in person when I got here a week ago, and let me tell you, those fellas are a bunch of silly geese. I love them dearly.
Most importantly, I got to meet my companions, Elders Moll (pronounced like Darth Maul) and Krzeminski (we don't even try to pronounce his name we just call him elder K). Elder Moll is from Arkansas and is 20 years old. He played football in high school and loves Arkansas football (lotta BYU trash talk going on). Elder K is from Haines City Florida and actually plays football at BYU. We'e rooming with a dope duo: Elder Miller from Utah and the one and only Elder Dean from Az (he's my favorit). We went to ALA QC together. So that's awesome! I love my comps; we call our crew "the three headed Goat" just cause we're that awesome. An example of our Goatedness: in the MTC, there's this program at the MTC called helping others. It is basically practice teaching where some of the people are actors and some are real non-members. Well, the Three Headed Goat decided to invite someone to be baptized on the first lesson we taught them! And he said yes! It was genuinely one of the most scary experiences of my life! At the same time, it felt awesome. Just makes me even more excited to go up to the Great White North to spread el Evangelio (that's gospel for all you non spanish speakers).
Speaking of Spanish, we begin full immersion tomorrow. Which means our teachers will strictly speak to us in Spanish starting tomorrow. I don't feel ready, but I'm very excited to make some progress in the language. I've been studying the gift of tongues and been praying for it night and day. I have a testimony that the gifts of the spirit are real, and if you ever need help, read Moroni 10. All of those gifts are available to those who need them. I can testify of this; I've already felt them in just the week that I've been here
Random stuff:
MTC cafeteria food is not as bad as advertised. Don't get me wrong, there are still some gross meals. But as long as you get an aloha plate, you're chillin.
We learned how to invite people to make commitments. So as a district we decided to invite our teacher Hermano Markham to go on a date with our other female teacher Hermana Demill. An update will follow in the next email.
The power went out during a devotional so we all sang in the dark. Very spiritual.
Rejoice the Lord is King and also Come, Come Ye Saints are two incredible songs.
Adios,
Elder Curtis
