Assistant To The President Position Letter

Dear Elder Curtis,

You have been assigned to serve as an Assistant to the President in the Canada Edmonton Mission. This assignment places you in a significant position of trust! Other missionaries will look to you for leadership and an example of what the Lord expects a missionary to be and do. I will look to you to honour that trust at all times and in all places.

In Missionary Standards 2.1.3, 2.1.4, and 7.1  you will find what is expected from young mission leaders. In Preach My Gospel, chapter 6 you will find attributes of a leader to which we all aspire.  Please study these passages carefully, review them often, and adhere to them fully and completely as you fulfill your assignment. 

In your assignment as an Assistant to the President you are to:
1. Provide training, as requested by the mission president, in mission leadership councils, zone conferences, and at other times.
2. Conduct companion exchanges with zone leaders and other elders as directed by the mission president (see 2.3.1).  Exchanges provide a wonderful opportunity to minister to the needs of the missionary, as well as to guide and teach him how to be a more effective missionary.  Our desire is that at the close of an exchange both missionaries have become more committed disciples of Jesus Christ.  
3. Bring souls unto Christ in your assigned area through finding, teaching, and baptizing.
4. Provide counsel to and assist the mission president in helping missionaries grow and develop to their full potential.
5. Strengthen and motivate missionaries in every setting.

All training and proselyting in our mission is based on the scriptures, the words of Prophets and Apostles, Preach My Gospel, and Missionary Standards.

In this sacred trust you will learn of private matters which must be kept confidential. Discussing these matters with anyone except with the mission president would be inappropriate and may result in a loss of faith by those who trust us.

The Lord loves you and inspired your call to serve as an Assistant to the President. I love you and look forward to working with you. This call places you in the view of every missionary in the Canada Edmonton Mission. Your example sets the standard for the mission. Therefore, lead a Christ-centered life and fulfill your purpose to invite all to come unto Christ. Pray with all the energy of heart for His continual guidance and inspiration.  I am grateful for your continued service!

One of the most beautiful analogies I've ever heard in my life is this: Canada is like if aliens studied America for 30 years, and then tried recreating it. Week 29: FREEZING

One of the more crazy weeks of the Mission Quick meteorology lesson: way way up north, there is something called the polar votex (basically a big ol cold air mass) When it is being nice it stays in a nice neat circle and keeps all the cold air together. But sometimes it gets weird and wonky, and the air leaks down to where normal people live....... I woke up on Thursday morning and I crack open the balcony to feel the temperature. No joke I could not breathe. I go and check my phone: -29°C. Cold. Very very cold. Over the next couple of days, the whole province of Alberta slowly shut down. On Saturday, we reached a high of -36 and a low of -42. There was talk that we would have to stay inside, but thankfully we didn't have too. Did that stop us? No. We still workin, found 8 new friends to teach, and put Jahir and the Martinez family back on date. The Lord loves effort! Honestly kinda crazy. Week 4: One Month Down

Hola everyone. It has now been officially a month and a day since I've been set apart as a missionary. It has also probably been the quickest month of my life. Time has absolutely flown by, and I'm completely ok with that. Every day is filled with gospel and language study, bonding with my district, and the occasional fun random activity. Like last P-day when we went to the Provo temple, which was absolutely incredible. I love the temple, and I was grateful for the opportunity to get outside the MTC boundaries and get out into the real world.  Me and my two comps actually got the opportunity to talk to a guy outside of the temple who was writing a talk about the Holy Ghost. We were able to give him some advice and direct him to some conference talks and also 3rd Nephi 18. It was awesome to be able to see what missionary work is going to be like.
