Zone Leader Position Letter

Dear  Sister Curtis,

Elder Curtis has recently been called to serve as a zone leader in the Canada Edmonton Mission. Below is a copy of the letter he has received.

Dear Elder Curtis,

You have been assigned to serve as a zone leader in the Canada Edmonton Mission. This assignment places you in a significant position of trust. Other missionaries will look to you for leadership and an example of what the Lord expects a missionary to be and do. I count on you to honour that trust at all times and in all places. Your example sets the standard for the missionaries in your zone.

As a zone leader you have the same responsibilities in serving the missionaries in your zone as district leaders have in their districts. In addition, you will teach missionaries in your zone through companion exchanges (primarily with district leaders), visits to district meetings, and presentations in zone conferences. You are a member of a district, and you report your proselyting work through your district leader.

In Missionary Standards 2.1.3, 2.1.4, and 7.1  you will find what is expected from young mission leaders. In Preach My Gospel, chapter 6 you will find attributes of a leader to which we all aspire.  Please study these passages carefully, review them often, and adhere to them fully as you fulfill your assignment.

As a zone leader you will participate in Mission Leadership Council to be trained and to prepare for zone conferences. At those council sessions please be prepared to:

1. Report on the application of previous training and on the results seen in your zone.

2. Discuss how missionaries can prepare for zone conference training, and how district leaders can build on it in district meetings and companion exchanges.

3. Suggest  how we address needs and challenges in the mission.

4. Receive leadership training.

All training and proselyting in our mission is based on the scriptures, the words of Prophets and Apostles, Preach My Gospel, Missionary Standards, and the counsel of your mission leaders.

In this sacred trust you will learn of private matters which must be kept confidential. Discussing these matters with anyone except with the mission president would be inappropriate and may result in a loss of faith by those who trust us.

The Lord loves you and has inspired your call to serve as a zone leader. I love you and look forward to working with and depending on you. Your success and happiness in this assignment will be governed by your commitment to the Lord and His servants. As you continue to develop Christ-like attributes you will magnify your calling and fulfill the trust placed in you. Remember to show forth love continually to all that you serve.

With love and appreciation,

Jack L. Stott, President

Canada Edmonton Mission
